Integreerimisfunktsioonid, known in English as integration functions or integrating factors, are a tool used in solving certain types of ordinary differential equations. They are particularly useful for converting a non-exact differential equation into an exact one. An exact differential equation is one that can be expressed as the total differential of some function.

The general form of a first-order differential equation is M(x, y)dx + N(x, y)dy = 0. This equation is considered exact if the partial derivative of M with respect to y is equal to the partial derivative of N with respect to x, i.e., ∂M/∂y = ∂N/∂x. If this condition is not met, the equation is non-exact.

An integrating factor, often denoted by μ(x, y), is a function that, when multiplied by both M(x, y) and N(x, y), transforms the original non-exact equation into an exact one. That is, μ(x, y)M(x, y)dx + μ(x, y)N(x, y)dy = 0 becomes an exact equation. This means that ∂(μM)/∂y = ∂(μN)/∂x.

There are specific rules and conditions under which an integrating factor can be found. For instance, if (∂M/∂y - ∂N/∂x) / N is a function of x only, then the integrating factor is of the form μ(x) = exp(∫ [(∂M/∂y - ∂N/∂x) / N] dx). Similarly, if (∂N/∂x - ∂M/∂y) / M is a function of y only, then the integrating factor is of the form μ(y) = exp(∫ [(∂N/∂x - ∂M/∂y) / M] dy). In other cases, finding an integrating factor might be more complex or it may not exist in a simple form. Once an integrating factor is found and the equation is made exact, it can be solved by finding a potential function F(x, y) such that ∂F/∂x = μM and ∂F/∂y = μN. The general solution is then given by F(x, y) = C, where C is a constant.
