Inscrit is a French term with several related uses. As an adjective and a past participle, it conveys that someone or something has been registered, enrolled, or listed. The feminine form is inscrite, and the masculine and feminine plural forms are inscrits and inscrites, respectively. The noun sense refers to a person who has registered or enrolled, typically written as un inscrit (masc) or une inscrite (fem). The word derives from the verb s’inscrire, itself from inscrire and ultimately from Latin inscribere, meaning to write in or on.

In everyday language, inscrire is used when joining a program, course, membership, or official registry. For example, on a form one might say, “Je suis inscrit à ce cours,” or “Les étudiants inscrits doivent se présenter.” Administrative contexts also employ the term to indicate inclusion on a list or registry, such as “inscrits sur le registre.” In sports, clubs, or elections, participants are often described as inscrits.

In geometry, inscrit has a distinct technical meaning. A figure is described as being inscrit dans another figure when its vertices lie on the boundary of the other figure, such as “un polygone inscrit dans un cercle.” The complementary concept is circumscrit, used to denote figures that surround another figure.
