Iniasklaida is a term used to describe the deliberate dissemination of false or misleading information through media channels with the aim of deceiving audiences, shaping opinions, or influencing public policy. It overlaps with, but is not identical to, misinformation (unintentional errors) and malinformation (correct information used to cause harm). In many contexts iniasklaida refers to organized campaigns, including state-backed or commercial propaganda, designed to manipulate beliefs and behavior.

Common methods include fake news articles, doctored images or videos (deepfakes), miscaptioned media, misleading headlines, automated social media accounts (bots), and coordinated inauthentic behavior that creates the impression of broad support.

Origins and spread: Although disinformation has existed long before the internet, modern iniasklaida proliferates with social media, targeted advertising, data analytics, and global connectivity, allowing rapid reach and micro-targeting of specific groups.

Impacts: It can erode trust, polarize societies, influence elections, undermine health and public safety, and harm individuals' reputations.

Responses: Countermeasures include media and digital literacy, fact-checking, transparency about sources, platform policies to limit manipulation, algorithmic adjustments, and clear public communication from credible institutions.
