inessiivimuotoa
Ininessiivimuoto, or inessivimuoto, is the Finnish locative case used to express location inside or within something. It answers questions like missä? (where is X located?), indicating a static position rather than movement, which is expressed by the illative or other cases.
The typical endings are -ssa or -ssä for singular and -issa or -issä for plural, chosen according
- singular: talossa (in the house), kirjassa (in the book), koulussa (in the school)
- plural: taloissa (in the houses), kirjoissa (in the books), kouluissa (in the schools)
The stem may trigger consonant doubling; for example talo + -ssa becomes talossa, as the s is geminated.
