Industrikjeler, or industrial kettles, are large vessels used to heat, cook, and process liquids in manufacturing environments. They are common in food and beverage production, dairy processing, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, and other facilities requiring controlled heating and mixing of liquids at scale.

Construction and design features vary, but most industrial kettles are jacketed or direct-fired. A jacketed kettle has an outer shell with an internal jacket through which steam or hot water circulates to provide even heat. Direct-fired kettles use a burner or other heat source in contact with the vessel to transfer heat. Many units include an agitator or mixer to ensure uniform cooking and to prevent scorching. Insulation reduces heat loss, and sanitary designs use smooth interior surfaces and accessible cleanout paths. Materials are typically stainless steel (such as grade 304 or 316) for hygiene and corrosion resistance, with larger or specialized vessels employing higher-grade alloys.

Heating and control systems vary by application, ranging from steam jackets and temperature-controlled electric elements to fully automated process controls. Temperature, pressure, and mixing speed are monitored and adjusted to meet process specifications. Clean-in-place (CIP) systems are common in hygienic applications to minimize manual cleaning.

Applications span dairy products (milk, cream, yogurt), soups and sauces, jams and fruit preparations, syrups, and various chemical or pharmaceutical liquids that require precise heat treatment. Standards and safety requirements often apply, including compliance with sanitary guidelines (EHEDG, 3A), and, for pressurized vessels, adherence to relevant pressure vessel codes such as the ASME standard. Regular maintenance focuses on insulation integrity, agitator drive systems, seals, and safety devices.
