Indoeurooppalaisten refers to the people who spoke or whose ancestors spoke a language belonging to the Indo-European language family. This is a vast family of languages that includes most of the languages of Europe, as well as many languages of Iran and the northern Indian subcontinent. The term itself is a direct translation of "Indo-European" into Finnish.

The concept of Indo-European languages and their speakers is a cornerstone of historical linguistics and anthropology.
