Immunoassay techniques are a group of analytical methods that use the specific binding properties of antibodies to detect and quantify a wide variety of substances. These techniques are based on the principle that an antibody will bind to its corresponding antigen with high specificity. This binding event can then be coupled to a detectable signal, such as a color change, fluorescence, or radioactivity, allowing for the identification and measurement of the antigen.

Lateral flow immunoassays (LFIA), commonly found in home pregnancy tests, are rapid, qualitative or semi-quantitative tests that utilize capillary action to move reagents across a membrane.

Immunoassays are widely used in clinical diagnostics for detecting diseases, monitoring drug levels, and identifying biomarkers. They are also employed in research for studying protein interactions, analyzing biological samples, and in food safety for detecting contaminants.
