ilmatiehyissä
Ilmatiehyissä refers to the airways in the respiratory system. These are the passages through which air travels into and out of the lungs. The major ilmatiehyissä include the trachea, bronchi, and bronchioles. The trachea, or windpipe, is a tube that connects the larynx to the bronchi. It is lined with cartilage rings to keep it open. The bronchi are two main tubes that branch off from the trachea, each leading to one of the lungs. Within the lungs, the bronchi further divide into smaller and smaller tubes called bronchioles. The smallest bronchioles terminate in tiny air sacs called alveoli, where gas exchange occurs. The ilmatiehyissä are responsible for conducting air to and from the alveoli, ensuring the body receives oxygen and expels carbon dioxide. Conditions affecting the ilmatiehyissä can lead to various respiratory problems.
