Illeselles is a fictional coastal municipality created for case studies in urban planning and regional history. It lies on a sheltered bay in the imagined nation of Valara, with a low inland ridge and terraced hills facing the sea. The area experiences a temperate, Mediterranean-like climate.

The name Illeselles reflects the town’s fictional toponymy. In the imagined language of Valaran, illu means ‘island’ and elles denotes ‘small,’ a combination intended to evoke a maritime heritage and the town’s proximity to several islets.

Historically, Illeselles began as a fishing village in the medieval era, developing around its natural harbor. It passed through various local rulers and later joined a regional confederation. In the 19th century the economy diversified with salt production, shipbuilding, and trade links to larger ports.

Today Illeselles has a small, diverse population of roughly 7,800 residents, with a seasonal influx from tourism. The economy remains centered on fishing, maritime services, and crafts, complemented by small-scale tourism and cultural events that emphasize coastal heritage.

Municipal government consists of a town council elected for four-year terms, supported by neighbourhood assemblies. Notable features include a 15th-century chapel, a harbor lighthouse, a waterfront promenade, and an annual sea festival that attracts visitors from nearby regions.
