ikkepolynomielle

Ikkepolynomielle, in mathematics, are functions that are not polynomials. A polynomial in one real variable x has the form a_0 + a_1 x + ... + a_n x^n with n a nonnegative integer and a_n ≠ 0. Ikkepolynomielle include all functions that cannot be written in that finite, closed form, and they arise frequently in analysis, modeling, and applied problems.

This category is very broad. Some ikkepolynomielle are analytic and smooth on their domains (for example exp(x) and sin(x) on all real numbers), while others may be discontinuous or only defined on part of the real line (for instance sqrt(x) is defined for x ≥ 0).

Non-polynomial functions can be further classified as algebraic or transcendental. Algebraic non-polynomials satisfy a polynomial equation P(x, f(x)) = 0, such as f(x) = sqrt(1+x) which fulfills f(x)^2 = 1+x. Transcendental non-polynomials, like exp(x), sin(x), and ln(x), do not satisfy any such polynomial relation with coefficients that are polynomials in x.
