Idegvezetésvizsgálat, also known as nerve conduction study (NCS), is a diagnostic medical procedure used to assess the function of peripheral nerves. It measures the speed and strength of electrical signals as they travel along nerves. This test helps identify and locate nerve damage or disease, often in conjunction with electromyography (EMG).

During an idegvezetésvizsgálat, small electrodes are placed on the skin over the nerve being tested. A mild electrical stimulus is delivered through one electrode, causing the nerve to fire an electrical impulse. Another electrode, placed further down the nerve, records the impulse's arrival. The time it takes for the impulse to travel between the electrodes is measured, and this information is used to calculate the nerve's conduction velocity. Additionally, the amplitude of the recorded signal indicates the strength of the nerve impulse.

Abnormal results, such as slowed conduction velocity or reduced signal amplitude, can indicate conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, sciatica, or nerve entrapment.
