hørselområder
Hørselområder, often translated as auditory areas, refer to specific regions within the brain that are responsible for processing auditory information. These areas are part of the auditory pathway, which begins with the ears and extends through various neural structures to the cerebral cortex. The primary auditory cortex, located in the temporal lobe, is the first cortical area to receive auditory input. It is organized tonotopically, meaning that different parts of the cortex respond to different frequencies of sound. Damage to the primary auditory cortex can lead to difficulties in perceiving sound, such as auditory agnosia, where individuals struggle to recognize sounds despite having normal hearing acuity.
Beyond the primary auditory cortex, a network of secondary and association areas further process auditory information.
