Hörnskåp, or corner cabinet, is a piece of furniture designed to fit into the corner of a room. Its footprint is usually triangular or L-shaped, allowing storage and display without occupying central floor space.

Most hörnskåp combine a lower storage compartment with doors and an upper display section, often with glass doors. The corner element is aligned with the walls, and models may be built-in or freestanding. Some designs use sloping or curved profiles to ease access.

Materials are typically timber—such as oak, pine, or birch—finished with stain, varnish, or paint. In Swedish interiors, hörnskåp are associated with traditional styles such as Gustavian and country furniture, though contemporary versions are common.

Historically, corner cupboards became popular in Swedish homes from the 18th century onward as a space-saving solution in kitchens and dining rooms. They vary in size from compact wall-mounted units to tall freestanding pieces, and may emphasize practicality or display.

Functions include storing crockery, glassware, textiles, and pantry items, as well as presenting prized items behind glass doors. The design emphasizes balance and proportion, fitting into the architectural corner rather than competing with it.

Care and maintenance are straightforward: regular dusting, occasional cleaning with a mild wood cleaner, and protection from excessive moisture or direct sun to preserve joins and finish.
