Högskolepoäng, often referred to as ECTS credits, is a unit of measurement used in higher education primarily in Sweden and across Europe. The workload includes not only direct contact hours with instructors, such as lectures and seminars, but also independent study, preparation for exams, assignments, and any other activities necessary to achieve the learning outcomes of a course. A full academic year of study is typically equivalent to 60 högskolepoäng or ECTS credits. Therefore, a standard three-year bachelor's degree program would amount to 180 högskolepoäng, and a two-year master's program would be 120 högskolepoäng.

The ECTS system aims to provide a common framework for understanding the scope and demands of different academic programs.
