högerändpunkten

Högerändpunkten is a term used in Swedish mathematics to denote the rightmost endpoint of a segment, interval, or bounded subset on the real number line. It identifies the boundary point with the greatest coordinate in the given context.

In practice, the högerändpunkten of an interval is the value that marks its right edge. For example, in the closed interval [a, b], the högerändpunkten is b. For half-open intervals, such as [a, b) or (a, b], the right end is still b, although the endpoint may or may not belong to the set itself depending on whether the interval includes the right end. In the open interval (a, b), the point b serves as the right boundary, but it is not an element of the interval.

The corresponding left endpoint is vänsterändpunkten, the smallest boundary point a of the interval. The concept can be extended to sets that are unbounded to the right; in such cases there is no finite högerändpunkt, and one might describe the set as having no right endpoint or as being bounded above with a supremum that is not attained.

In geometry and related areas, the term is often used when describing a segment AB oriented from left to right, with B designated as the högerändpunkten. The concept helps in specifying the position of boundaries and endpoints within intervals, segments, and ordered sets.
