Hybridkryptering, also known as hybrid encryption, is a cryptographic method that combines two or more different types of encryption to achieve enhanced security and efficiency. It is commonly used in modern communication and data security systems. The most typical form of hybrid encryption involves the use of both symmetric-key encryption and asymmetric-key encryption.

In a typical hybrid encryption scenario, a message is first encrypted using a fast symmetric-key algorithm with a randomly generated session key. This session key is then encrypted using a slower but more secure asymmetric-key algorithm, typically with the recipient's public key. The encrypted message and the encrypted session key are then transmitted together. The recipient uses their private key to decrypt the session key, and then uses the decrypted session key to decrypt the message.

This approach leverages the strengths of both encryption methods. Symmetric-key encryption is computationally efficient and ideal for encrypting large amounts of data. Asymmetric-key encryption, while slower, provides a secure way to exchange the symmetric key without requiring a pre-shared secret. This makes hybrid encryption a practical and widely adopted solution for secure data transmission and storage, such as in protocols like Transport Layer Security (TLS) used for secure web browsing.
