Humpback whales are baleen whales belonging to the species Megaptera novaeangliae. These large marine mammals feed primarily on krill and small fish, using a unique feeding technique called bubble-net feeding. Despite their immense size, they are known for their acrobatic displays, including breaching, where they leap out of the water and crash back down.

The conservation status of humpback whales has improved significantly in recent decades due to international protection measures.
