The Hummer is a brand of vehicles produced by General Motors Corporation from 1992 to 2010. The brand was founded as a niche market for high-end, off-road capable vehicles based on the design of the Hummer H1, a military vehicle used by the United States Armed Forces.

The Hummer H1 was first introduced in 1992 as a civilian version of the M998 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, which was designed for military use. The H1 was a large, four-wheel-drive SUV with a powerful diesel engine and a unique design that featured a three-person, fold-down rear seat.

In 2004, General Motors began production of the Hummer H2 and H3 models, which were smaller and more refined versions of the H1. The H2 was marketed as a luxury SUV, while the H3 was positioned as a more affordable, off-road capable version of the brand.

Throughout its production run, the Hummer brand was known for its high-performance capabilities and off-road prowess. However, the brand faced significant criticism for its poor fuel efficiency, high operating costs, and perceived environmental impact.

In 2010, General Motors announced that it would cease production of Hummer vehicles due to declining sales and increasing environmental regulations. The last Hummer vehicles were produced in May 2010, and the brand has since been phased out.
