Hulladékenergia, also known as waste-to-energy, refers to the process of generating energy in the form of electricity or heat from the incineration of waste materials. This technology aims to reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills and simultaneously recover valuable resources.

The process typically involves controlled combustion of non-recyclable waste in specialized facilities. The heat produced by the burning waste is used to boil water, creating steam. This steam then drives turbines connected to generators, producing electricity. Some facilities also utilize the heat for district heating systems, providing warmth to nearby buildings.

Modern waste-to-energy plants employ advanced pollution control technologies to minimize emissions. These systems capture and treat flue gases, removing pollutants like particulate matter, acid gases, and heavy metals before they are released into the atmosphere.
