holoparasitic
Holoparasitic refers to a type of parasitic plant that is entirely dependent on a host plant for its survival. Unlike hemiparasitic plants, which can photosynthesize to some degree, holoparasitic plants lack chlorophyll and therefore cannot produce their own food. They obtain all of their necessary nutrients, water, and carbon from their host. This complete reliance is achieved through specialized structures called haustoria, which are modified roots that penetrate the host plant's vascular tissues (xylem and phloem).
The haustoria allow the holoparasite to extract water and dissolved minerals from the host's xylem and sugars
