High tolerance, or hightolerance, is a term used across disciplines to denote the capacity of a system, organism, or process to endure variation, stress, or contamination while continuing to function.

In engineering and manufacturing, tolerance refers to the permissible deviation from a nominal dimension. A part with high tolerance allows a larger deviation and is described as having looser tolerance, which can reduce manufacturing cost and ease assembly but may decrease precision or fit. Conversely, tight tolerances restrict variation and increase accuracy.

In biology and environmental science, tolerance describes the range of conditions within which an organism or ecosystem can survive and function. A high tolerance means a broad tolerance range for factors such as temperature, salinity, or pH, or greater resilience to stressors, enabling survival in variable environments. Examples include desert plants and aquatic species that endure wide environmental swings.
