Hidrogénforrások refers to the origins and methods of obtaining hydrogen. Hydrogen is the most abundant chemical element in the universe and exists in various forms on Earth, primarily bound within compounds.

On Earth, the most common source of hydrogen is water (H2O). Electrolysis, a process that uses electricity to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen, is a key method for extracting hydrogen from this abundant resource. The electricity used for electrolysis can come from renewable sources, leading to what is known as "green hydrogen," a highly desirable form due to its low environmental impact.

Another significant source of hydrogen is fossil fuels, such as natural gas and coal. Steam methane reforming (SMR) is a widely used industrial process where natural gas reacts with steam at high temperatures to produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide. This method, however, generates carbon dioxide as a byproduct, classifying the resulting hydrogen as "grey hydrogen." If the carbon dioxide is captured and stored, it is referred to as "blue hydrogen."

Biomass also represents a potential hydrogen source. Processes like gasification and anaerobic digestion can convert organic matter into hydrogen. This method can be considered a renewable pathway, often categorized alongside green hydrogen.

Research is also ongoing into novel hydrogen production methods, including photocatalytic water splitting, thermochemical cycles, and biological processes using microorganisms. The development and widespread adoption of these diverse hidrogénforrások are crucial for expanding the use of hydrogen as a clean energy carrier and industrial feedstock.
