A hexapoder is an organism with six legs. This term is most commonly associated with arthropods, as the class Insecta, which is characterized by having six legs, is a vast and diverse group within the phylum Arthropoda. However, the term "hexapoder" can also be used more broadly to refer to any creature possessing six limbs, regardless of its taxonomic classification.

The six-legged body plan of insects has proven to be incredibly successful, contributing to their widespread distribution and abundance across nearly all terrestrial and freshwater habitats on Earth. This arrangement of legs, typically three pairs attached to the thorax, allows for efficient locomotion, stability, and a variety of specialized movements such as jumping, swimming, and climbing.
