A hexahedron is a polyhedron with six faces. The most common and well-known example of a hexahedron is a cube, which has six identical square faces, twelve edges of equal length, and eight vertices. However, not all hexahedrons are cubes. The term hexahedron simply refers to any six-sided solid figure.

The faces of a hexahedron are polygons. While in a cube these faces are all squares, in other hexahedrons they can be rectangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, or other irregular quadrilaterals. The number of edges and vertices in a hexahedron is constant according to Euler's formula for polyhedra, which states that for any convex polyhedron, V - E + F = 2, where V is the number of vertices, E is the number of edges, and F is the number of faces. For a hexahedron, F = 6, so V - E + 6 = 2, which means V - E = -4. Typically, a hexahedron has 8 vertices and 12 edges.

Hexahedrons appear in various contexts. In geometry, they are fundamental shapes for understanding three-dimensional objects. In everyday life, boxes, dice, and some crystals are examples of hexahedrons. The specific shape of a hexahedron determines its properties, such as volume and surface area.
