Hemmabiograf is a term used in Swedish-language contexts to describe a home cinema setup—a dedicated space or room in a residence equipped to reproduce film and video with high-quality audio and video, aiming to emulate a cinema experience at home. The word combines hemma (home) and biograf (cinema).

Typical hemmabiograf arrangements include a display (large TV or projector with screen), a multichannel audio system (receiver, speakers, subwoofer), and comfortable seating. Many installations incorporate acoustic treatment, controlled lighting, and a centralized control system to run video sources, streaming services, and game consoles from a single interface.

The concept evolved with consumer electronics and media formats. From traditional CRT televisions and stereo setups, to DVD and Blu-ray, and now streaming and high-definition audio formats, modern hemmabiograf projects commonly use 4K ultra HD displays, HDR, and object-based surround sound such as Dolby Atmos.

Design and planning considerations include room dimensions and layout, acoustic treatment, light control, ventilation, seating ergonomics, cabling, and budget. Public safety and building codes may also influence installation, particularly for larger or higher-powered systems.
