Helikõnesid is a term used to describe a type of infrastructure for communication. Helikõnesid refers to the song-like or melodic patterns that form part of a communication system. These patterns or sounds are conveyed and transmitted through various means, often including the use of sound signaling.

The origins of helikõnesid are unclear, but it is believed to date back to ancient times. In ancient civilizations, messages were conveyed through a variety of methods such as horn blowing, drumming, and other forms of acoustic signaling. This type of communication allowed for conveyance of messages across distances and often served as a means of early warning systems.

In periods of military mobilization or other high-stress situations, helikõnesid was used extensively. The Republic of Estonia used it for more than a century in their military traditions, the creation of signals that were used by the military who carved these warning signals and sounded them on the trumpet horns called helisonid. Communication was carried out essentially in melodic forms.

These sound signals for communication sometimes strongly related to the geography of the area. For example, there is information that soldiers were able to hear these sounds in the Jurbarksk region of Lithuania. It was becoming clear that the defense mechanism was important part on any war from minor skirmishes to larger campaigns to create a communication system that can produce signals that can be transferred telegraphically in the region.

These communications also used general social information dissemination.
