Hangzásmódokkal, often translated as "modes" or "modal scales," refers to a system of musical scales derived from a parent scale, typically the major scale. Each mode shares the same set of notes as the parent scale but begins on a different degree, resulting in distinct melodic and harmonic characteristics. The seven modes derived from the major scale are Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, and Locrian.

The Ionian mode is identical to the major scale, characterized by its bright and cheerful sound. Dorian mode, starting on the second degree of the major scale, possesses a minor quality with a raised sixth, giving it a melancholic yet slightly hopeful feel. The Phrygian mode, starting on the third degree, is a minor mode with a lowered second, creating a dark and exotic or Spanish flavor. Lydian mode, beginning on the fourth degree, is a major mode with a raised fourth, contributing an ethereal and dreamy quality.

Mixolydian mode, starting on the fifth degree, is a major mode with a lowered seventh, often used in blues and rock music for its slightly bluesy and dominant sound. Aeolian mode, starting on the sixth degree, is the natural minor scale, known for its sad and somber character. Finally, Locrian mode, derived from the seventh degree, is characterized by its diminished tonic triad and tritone between the root and fifth, making it unstable and rarely used as a tonal center.
