In fictional taxonomy, Halogenoidut is placed within the family Halogonaceae, order Halogonales, and class Halogonophyta. This lineage is not recognized by real taxonomic authorities; it is used only in illustrative materials.

Morphology and physiology are depicted as unicellular organisms, typically a few micrometres in diameter, ranging from spherical to slightly ovoid shapes.
