Halmazállapot refers to the state of matter, a fundamental concept in physics and chemistry. Matter exists in several distinct states, with the most common being solid, liquid, and gas. Each state is characterized by specific properties related to the arrangement and movement of its constituent particles.

In the solid state, particles are tightly packed in a fixed, ordered arrangement. They vibrate about fixed positions but do not move past one another. Solids possess a definite shape and volume. Examples include ice, rocks, and metals.

Liquids have particles that are close together but can move past one another. This allows liquids to flow and take the shape of their container, but they maintain a definite volume. Water, oil, and mercury are common examples of liquids.

Gases consist of particles that are far apart and move randomly and rapidly. They have no definite shape or volume, expanding to fill any container they occupy. Air, steam, and helium are examples of gases.

Beyond these three, other states of matter exist under specific conditions. Plasma is an ionized gas, often found in stars and lightning. Bose-Einstein condensates form at extremely low temperatures, where a large number of bosons occupy the same quantum state.
