These secondary bulbs, often smaller and irregularly shaped, can arise from the basal plate of the parent bulb.

In cooking, onions exhibiting this hagymagumós characteristic might be considered less ideal for certain preparations where uniform slices or shapes are desired, such as in ring formation for onion rings. However, for general cooking, mincing, or flavoring, they are perfectly usable.
