Hüpikgaas, also known as nitrous oxide or dinitrogen monoxide, is a chemical compound with the formula N₂O. It is a colorless gas at room temperature and pressure. Hüpikgaas occurs naturally in the Earth's atmosphere as part of the nitrogen cycle and is also produced by certain biological processes, particularly in soil and oceans. Industrially, it is commonly produced by heating ammonium nitrate.

Hüpikgaas has several significant applications. It is widely used as an anesthetic and analgesic in medicine, particularly in dentistry and during minor surgical procedures, where it is often referred to as "laughing gas" due to its euphoric effects. In the automotive industry, it is employed as a performance enhancer, injected into engines to increase horsepower by providing more oxygen for combustion. It also serves as a propellant in aerosol cans, for example, in whipped cream dispensers.

While often associated with recreational use, which can lead to serious health risks including neurological damage and asphyxiation, hüpikgaas also plays a role in climate change as a greenhouse gas.
