A gyújtáskapcsoló, often referred to as an ignition switch, is a critical component in motor vehicles and other machinery powered by internal combustion engines. Its primary function is to control the flow of electrical power to the ignition system and other essential vehicle components.

Typically, a gyújtáskapcsoló operates through a series of positions, usually controlled by a key. The most common positions include OFF, ACC (accessory), ON, and START. In the OFF position, all electrical systems are deactivated, and the engine is stopped. The ACC position allows certain accessories, such as the radio or power windows, to operate without turning on the engine. The ON position powers the vehicle's main electrical systems, including the fuel pump, dashboard lights, and engine control unit, preparing the engine to start. Finally, the START position engages the starter motor, which cranks the engine until it begins to run on its own. Once the engine is running, the switch is released back to the ON position.

These contacts direct electrical current to different circuits based on the switch's position.
