Gummikomposition describes the formulation of chewing gum, the mix of ingredients that gives gum its texture, sweetness, and flavor. A typical chewing gum formulation consists of a gum base, bulk sweeteners, softeners, flavorings, and colorants. In sugar-containing gums, sweeteners are usually sucrose and glucose syrups; in sugar-free gums, sugar alcohols such as xylitol, sorbitol, or mannitol serve as bulk sweeteners and sweeteners. Humectants or plasticizers, such as glycerin or vegetable oil, help maintain softness, while flavorings provide the characteristic taste and colors improve appearance. Gum base is the non-digestible matrix that provides chewiness and defines texture. Manufacturing involves softening or melting the gum base, incorporating softeners and plasticizers, then blending in sweeteners, flavors, and colors. The mass is then extruded, sheeted, scored, and cut into sticks or pellets, and some products receive a protective coating to improve freshness and texture. Quality control monitors texture, flavor stability, and microbiological safety.

Variations exist for sugar-containing and sugar-free gums, and regulatory labeling requires disclosure of ingredients in many jurisdictions. Shelf life is influenced by moisture, packaging, and exposure to heat.
