Gränsfläns (boundary flange) is a Swedish engineering term that describes a flange forming the boundary between two components or sections in a system. The flange provides a mating surface for fastening and a seal to prevent leakage or contamination across the boundary. It is used wherever modular construction or maintenance access requires a defined interface between parts.

Design and features: A gränsfläns typically includes bolt holes in a circular pattern, a gasket surface, and a defined face type such as raised-face, flat-face, or ring-type joint. Materials are chosen for service conditions (pressure, temperature, corrosion) and may include carbon steel, stainless steel, or alloy grades. The flange must be compatible with connecting components and gaskets, and surface finish and tolerances influence leak-tightness and alignment.

Applications: Common in piping networks, pressure vessels, filtration modules, and modular machinery, where sections must be joined, separated, or accessed for maintenance. In some contexts the term also covers boundary closures at the end of a subsystem or test rig.
