Groutable is an adjective used in construction and tiling to describe a surface, joint, or installation that can be filled with grout. In tile work, groutable refers to the gaps between tiles and the substrate that are intended to be filled after installation with a grout product to seal joints, provide stability, and offer a finished appearance. A surface is groutable when the tile edges and the substrate allow for proper grout adhesion and joint formation.

A groutable installation typically involves tiles such as ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone set with defined joints. Concrete pavers and certain wall cladding systems may also be described as groutable. For a surface to be groutable, joints must be prepared to receive grout: gaps of appropriate width, clean and dry edges, and a substrate that can bond with grout types such as cementitious or epoxy grout. Substrates should be properly prepared, and movement or control joints should be planned to accommodate expansion and contraction.

Groutable installations are commonly used in bathrooms, kitchens, showers, and floors, where grout helps prevent water infiltration and provides a finished appearance with color and texture options. Some designs aim to minimize or eliminate visible grout lines, using flush or microjoint concepts; however, the underlying structure is still considered groutable if joints exist and can receive grout. The term is mainly used in professional tiling documentation and product specifications.
