Groundacross is a cross‑disciplinary platform that aggregates, visualizes, and provides analytical tools for land‑use, soil composition, and environmental monitoring data across continental scales. Founded in 2015 by a consortium of geographers, agronomists, and software engineers, the project was originally launched under the name “TerraSync” in response to a growing need for interoperable geospatial datasets after the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy reforms. In 2018 the platform was rebranded to Groundacross to better reflect its ambition to “connect data across every ground type”.

Key functionalities include a data ingestion pipeline capable of reading satellite imagery, in‑situ sensor feeds, and public GIS repositories; a mapping interface that overlays soil taxonomy, topographic indices, and land‑cover classification in an interactive web viewer; and a suite of statistical modules that enable users to perform trend analysis, correlation studies, and predictive modeling. Groundacross supports several open standards, such as GeoJSON, NetCDF, and the Open Geospatial Consortium’s Web Feature Service, making it compatible with a wide range of GIS software.

The platform is utilized by government agencies for national land‑management planning, by NGOs focused on climate change mitigation, and by universities conducting interdisciplinary environmental research. In 2022 Groundacross received the Innovate Europe Award for its contribution to sustainable agriculture technology. The project maintains an open‑source core under an Apache 2.0 license, while higher‑level analytical services are offered as a subscription-based API.
