Granzyymeilla (granzymes) are a family of serine proteases produced by cytotoxic lymphocytes, primarily CD8+ T cells and natural killer (NK) cells. They are stored in lytic granules alongside perforin and other granule components and are released into the immunological synapse when a cytotoxic cell recognizes a target, such as an infected or transformed cell. The main role of granzyymes is to induce death in these targets through proteolytic pathways that lead to apoptosis or other forms of cell death.
