Graffiti types refer to the various distinct styles and forms that graffiti art can take. While the term graffiti broadly encompasses writing or drawings scribbled, scratched, or sprayed illicitly on a wall or other surface in a public place, the artistic execution and intent lead to different classifications.

One of the most common types is lettering, which focuses on the stylized rendering of names or words. This includes simple tags, which are a writer's signature or pseudonym, often executed quickly. More elaborate styles like throw-ups involve bubble-shaped letters, usually done in two colors for speed. Pieces, short for masterpieces, are more complex and time-consuming works featuring multiple colors, intricate designs, and often background elements. Blockbusters are large, simple letters intended to be highly visible.

Beyond lettering, graffiti art can include characters, which are cartoon-like figures or realistic drawings integrated into or standing alone from the text. Murals are large-scale, often complex artworks that cover entire walls, frequently commissioned or painted with permission, blurring the lines between graffiti and street art. Stencils are another form, where a pre-cut template is used to spray paint an image or text, allowing for quick reproduction and detailed designs. Paste-ups involve applying printed or hand-drawn images to walls using adhesive. Each type has its own techniques, historical development, and aesthetic considerations within the broader graffiti culture.
