Globventiler, known in English as globe valves, are a class of linear-motion valves used to regulate flow in pipelines. The valve body typically has a spherical shape, and a movable disk (the plug) seals against a stationary seat. The stem connected to the disk moves the plug toward or away from the seat to throttle or stop flow.

The flow path through a globe valve is not straight, which creates a significant pressure drop when throttling. This geometry makes globe valves well suited for precise flow control and tight shut-off, but less efficient for large-diameter or high-flow applications due to higher friction losses.

Variations include the standard globe valve, the Y-pattern globe valve (which reduces flow resistance by routing the flow path more directly within the body), and the angle globe valve (which changes flow direction at 90 degrees). End connections are commonly threaded or flanged, and materials range from carbon steel and stainless steel to bronze and other alloys. Seats and packing may use materials such as PTFE, graphite, or elastomers to suit different fluids and temperatures.

Actuation can be manual, using a handwheel, or automated with electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic actuators. Globe valves are widely used in water, steam, oil, gas, and chemical services, where throttling control and reliable shut-off are important. They are chosen for applications requiring good throttling characteristics and a robust seating mechanism, though at the cost of higher pressure drop and typically larger size compared with some other valve types. Regular maintenance focuses on seats, seals, and stem packing to prevent leakage.
