Glasspapir, or glass paper, is an abrasive material used to smooth or shape surfaces by abrasion. The term historically derives from early abrasive products that used ground glass; modern glasspapir uses synthetic grains such as aluminum oxide or silicon carbide bonded to a paper or cloth backing.

Backings include paper, cloth, or fiber; grits range from coarse to very fine. Commonly used scales include coarse grits (P40–P60) for rapid material removal and fine grits (P120–P400) for finishing; higher grades (P600–P1200+) for final smoothing. Water-resistant or waterproof variants use resin-bonded grains and can be used with water or oil for wet sanding. Some forms are self-adhesive discs, sheets, or belts for use with power tools.

Uses: Glasspapir is widely used in woodworking, metalworking, automotive bodywork and plastic finishing. It is employed to remove old finishes, flatten surfaces, round edges, and prepare surfaces for paints, stains, or varnishes. It can be used by hand with a sanding block or with electric or pneumatic sanders, on flat or contoured surfaces.

Safety and handling: When sanding, generate dust; use a dust mask or respirator and ensure adequate ventilation. Secure the workpiece and use appropriate pressure and strokes to avoid gouging. Used abrasive waste should be disposed of according to local regulations.
