Gladiattorit refers to a group of extinct, armored fish that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 70 to 66 million years ago. These fish were part of the order Polyodontiformes, which also includes the modern-day paddlefish. The name "gladiattorit" is not a formally recognized taxonomic term but is sometimes used colloquially to describe certain species within this group, particularly those with distinctive, elongated snouts and armored bodies.

Gladiattorit-like fish were primarily freshwater inhabitants, thriving in rivers and lakes across what is now North America and Europe. Their most notable feature was their elongated, paddle-shaped snouts, which were equipped with sensory organs capable of detecting minute electrical fields produced by prey. This adaptation suggests they were ambush predators, relying on their keen senses to locate and capture small fish and invertebrates.

Fossil evidence indicates that these fish had heavily armored bodies, covered in bony plates that provided protection against predators. Their streamlined bodies and powerful tails allowed them to navigate through water efficiently. While they shared similarities with modern paddlefish, gladiattorit-like species were generally larger and more robust, reflecting the evolutionary pressures of their time.

The decline of these fish coincided with the Cretaceous-Paleogene (K-Pg) extinction event, which wiped out many species, including the dinosaurs. The exact reasons for their extinction remain unclear, but environmental changes and competition with other predators likely played a role. Today, their fossils provide valuable insights into the biodiversity and ecological dynamics of Late Cretaceous freshwater ecosystems.
