Gipsilevyissä is a Finnish term referring to gypsum board, commonly known as drywall or plasterboard in many English-speaking countries. It is a building material used for creating interior walls and ceilings. The board consists of a core of gypsum plaster pressed between two thick sheets of paper or fiberglass mat. This construction makes it relatively lightweight, strong, and easy to cut and install.

Gypsum board is widely used in residential, commercial, and industrial construction due to its versatility and cost-effectiveness. It provides a smooth surface for finishing, which can then be painted, wallpapered, or otherwise decorated. The paper or fiberglass facing offers a good surface for joint compounds, allowing for seamless finishes. Fire resistance is another key characteristic; gypsum contains chemically bound water that, when exposed to heat, is released as steam, slowing down the spread of fire.

The installation process typically involves attaching the gypsum boards to a wooden or metal framework. The seams between boards are then covered with joint tape and multiple layers of joint compound, often referred to as "mud." Sanding the dried compound creates a smooth, continuous surface. Various types of gypsum board exist, including those with enhanced moisture resistance for bathrooms and kitchens, or those designed for improved sound insulation.
