Giglio is an Italian island in the Tyrrhenian Sea and the largest island of the Tuscan Archipelago. It lies off the coast of Tuscany and is part of the comune of Isola del Giglio in the province of Grosseto. The island is within the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, which protects its coastal and marine environments.

Geography and nature: Giglio covers roughly 22 square kilometers and has a hilly, rocky terrain with a rugged coastline and several beaches. The landscape features Mediterranean vegetation and clear waters that attract divers and snorkelers.

Settlements and history: The inhabited centers are Giglio Porto on the east coast, Giglio Campese on the west coast, and the hilltop village of Giglio Castello, surrounded by medieval walls. The island has ancient roots with evidence of Etruscan and later Roman presence and has been controlled by various feudal powers through the Middle Ages. It is part of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park.

Economy and access: The economy relies on fishing, tourism, and small-scale agriculture. The island is primarily accessed by ferry from Porto Santo Stefano on Monte Argentario and other mainland ports; there is no commercial airport. A marina serves private boats and locals.

Notable events: In January 2012, the Costa Concordia cruise ship ran aground off Giglio during a voyage, resulting in multiple deaths and a lengthy salvage operation. The disaster drew international attention to the island.
