Geocentrico is a term derived from the Greek words "geo" meaning Earth and "kentron" meaning center. It refers to a cosmological model where the Earth is considered the fixed center of the universe. In this model, all celestial bodies, including the Sun, Moon, planets, and stars, are believed to revolve around the Earth.

This geocentric view dominated astronomical thought for many centuries, particularly in ancient Greece. Prominent philosophers and astronomers like Aristotle and Ptolemy developed sophisticated geocentric models that attempted to explain the observed movements of the heavens. Ptolemy's Almagest, written in the 2nd century AD, provided a detailed mathematical framework for the geocentric system, which remained influential for over a thousand years. The apparent retrograde motion of planets, where they seem to temporarily reverse direction in the sky, was explained in these models using complex systems of epicycles and deferents.

The geocentric model was widely accepted within many cultures and religions, often aligning with theological interpretations of humanity's central place in creation. However, with the advent of the Renaissance and the work of astronomers like Nicolaus Copernicus, a shift towards a heliocentric model, placing the Sun at the center, began to emerge. This heliocentric perspective, later supported by the observations and mathematical work of Galileo Galilei, Johannes Kepler, and Isaac Newton, eventually replaced the geocentric view as the scientifically accepted understanding of the solar system. While geocentric models are no longer scientifically valid, they represent a significant historical stage in the development of astronomy.
