A gebläsekonvektor, often translated as fan coil unit, is a device that uses a fan to draw air through a heating or cooling coil and then circulate the conditioned air into a room. These units are a common component of hydronic heating and cooling systems, where water is used to transfer heat from a central plant to the gebläsekonvektor. The coil inside the unit contains either hot water for heating or chilled water for cooling.

The operation of a gebläsekonvektor is relatively simple. A fan, usually located within the unit, pulls ambient room air across the coil. As the air passes over the coil, it either absorbs heat from the hot water or releases heat to the chilled water, thus changing the air temperature. The fan then blows the conditioned air back into the room. Many gebläsekonvektoren have adjustable fan speeds and some also incorporate filters to remove dust and other airborne particles from the circulated air. Thermostats control the operation, turning the fan and water flow on or off to maintain a desired room temperature.

Gebläsekonvektoren offer several advantages, including individual room temperature control, relatively low installation costs compared to ducted systems, and flexibility in placement. They can be installed in various configurations, such as wall-mounted, ceiling-mounted, or as part of a console. However, they can also generate some noise due to the fan operation, and their effectiveness can be influenced by the design and maintenance of the central heating and cooling plant. They are frequently found in hotels, office buildings, and residential apartments.
