Gasvätskereaktorer, also known as gas-liquid reactors, are a type of chemical reactor where a gaseous reactant is brought into contact with a liquid reactant or a liquid phase containing a dissolved reactant. The primary purpose is to facilitate a chemical reaction between these two phases. The design of gas-liquid reactors is crucial for efficient mass transfer between the gas and liquid, which is often the rate-limiting step in such reactions.

Common types of gas-liquid reactors include bubble columns, stirred tank reactors, and packed bed reactors. In bubble columns, gas is sparged into a liquid column, creating bubbles that rise through the liquid. Stirred tank reactors involve mechanical agitation to disperse the gas into small bubbles and enhance mixing. Packed bed reactors can involve a liquid flowing over a stationary bed of solid catalyst where gas is also passed through, or where gas bubbles through a liquid flowing over packing.

Gas-liquid reactors are widely used in various industrial processes. Examples include hydrogenation, oxidation, absorption of gases into liquids, and fermentation. The choice of reactor type depends on factors such as the reaction kinetics, physical properties of the reactants, desired throughput, and operating conditions like temperature and pressure. Effective design and operation aim to maximize interfacial area between the gas and liquid phases and minimize diffusion resistances.
