Gasfluidised refers to a state in which solid particles are suspended in a gas stream in such a way that they behave like a fluid. This phenomenon, known as fluidisation, occurs when the upward velocity of the gas is sufficient to overcome the gravitational force on the particles. The minimum gas velocity required to achieve this state is called the minimum fluidisation velocity.

In a gasfluidised bed, the solid particles are in constant motion, mixing and interacting with the gas. This results in excellent heat and mass transfer properties, making gasfluidised beds highly effective for various industrial processes. Applications include catalytic cracking in the petroleum industry, combustion of fuels, drying of solids, and chemical reactions.

The behaviour of a gasfluidised bed depends on several factors, including the size, shape, and density of the solid particles, as well as the gas velocity and properties. Different regimes of fluidisation exist, such as bubbling fluidisation, turbulent fluidisation, and fast fluidisation, each characterised by distinct flow patterns and particle-gas interactions. Understanding and controlling these regimes is crucial for optimising the performance of gasfluidised systems.
