Gamerscore is a numeric tally used by Microsoft’s Xbox Live service to quantify a player's achievement progress in Xbox games. It represents the total number of achievement points earned by completing in-game goals and is shown on a player's Xbox profile and friend lists. The system was introduced with Xbox Live on the Xbox 360 in 2005 to provide a shareable record of in-game accomplishments.

Each game includes a set of achievements, each assigned a point value by the developer. When a player earns an achievement, the corresponding points are added to the player's Gamerscore after the game reports the achievement to Xbox Live. Most base games offer up to 1000 Gamerscore per title, with additional points possible from downloadable content or special editions.

Gamerscore is primarily a social metric rather than a direct measure of skill or time spent; it can influence perceptions among players and be used for bragging rights, friend leaderboards, or rewards in some services. The value of Gamerscore is personal and public unless a user changes privacy settings to hide it.

Over time, Gamerscore has remained a core feature through Xbox One, Series X and Series S, and Windows PC integrations, maintaining cross-platform tracking of achievements. While the specifics of the points and discovery of new content have evolved, Gamerscore continues to function as a cumulative score tied to earned achievements across compatible games and platforms.
