fødselskanalens
Fødselskanalen, also known as the birth canal, is the passageway through which a baby travels during childbirth. It consists of the mother's cervix, vagina, and vulva. The cervix, the lower, narrow part of the uterus, must dilate, or open, to allow the baby to pass from the uterus. This dilation typically progresses from 0 to 10 centimeters. Once the cervix is fully dilated, the baby begins to descend through the vagina. The vagina is a muscular canal that extends from the cervix to the outside of the body. Finally, the baby exits through the vulva, which are the external female genitalia. The process of the baby moving through the fødselskanalen is called labor and delivery. The size and elasticity of the fødselskanalen, along with the baby's position and size, all play a role in the delivery process. In some cases, medical interventions may be necessary to assist with the passage of the baby through the fødselskanalen.
