Földrengésjelzés, often translated as earthquake prediction or earthquake forecasting, refers to the scientific effort to anticipate the timing, location, and magnitude of future earthquakes. This field is complex and has historically been a subject of intense research and public interest, though reliable, short-term prediction remains an elusive goal.

Scientists employ various methods to study and potentially forecast earthquakes. These include monitoring seismic activity using seismometers to detect subtle tremors, changes in groundwater levels and chemistry, ground deformation measured by GPS and satellite imagery, and electromagnetic field variations. The underlying principle is that changes in stress and strain within the Earth's crust might precede a significant seismic event.

While precise short-term prediction (days or weeks) is not currently feasible, probabilistic forecasting provides valuable information.
